 for those who have read anything about me, you will know that i have my bachelors in fine art. something i have been experimenting with is painting on fondant with my food gels.

i have only done it a few times, but i feel like it is something unique and fun to play with. i may be on to something here....(although i'm sure others have done this, but seriously, you don't see  it too often.) my fiancees birthday was also in june, and one of his favorite cars is the nissan gtr. i didn't have time to actually cut one out like i did with lightning mcqueen, so i tried the next best thing. i think it came out decent considering i don't draw cars all the time.

another cake i enjoyed making which i finally got a few pics of was a wedding cake for a friend last year. she wanted a beach theme, and gave me the high five cake toppers to use.

simple.  nice.  fun.

the shells i actually molded myself as well, i wish i had a detail picture, but all of my pics got deleted, sadly. i visit the outer banks when i get the chance, and had some shells from the beach. i pressed them into sculpey clay, baked it, and used white candy melts to make little shells for her cake!

as for this, i just like this pic. that blueberry cake i was talking about? it is epic. this pic was just taken in my window one morning. anyway, thank you again for looking!

a couple new pics

 well, things seem a little slow for the summer so far. just this weekend, it was a friend's daughter's first birthday, and she had a whole sesame street theme, complete with the lamp post with her name on it!

it was a lot of work, but i got it done. i also had a smaller cake the same day for a police retirement party. crazy week!! next time i will have to ask for more time off from my other jobs!!

since the baby shower/wedding weekend, i had another birthday (pictured below) for a friends niece. i was actually kind of nervous, considering she is a huge fan of cake boss. we met a few weeks before and i was given the specifics on how she wanted it, and she didn't miss a thing!! multiple colored piped flowers, the "fon-dahnt" (fondant), a list of animals, a fence and piped grass, the barn and lastly a miniature version of herself as a vet tech on top of a hill! luckily, it went over successfully!

other than that, i havent had many requests. i had a chance to go blueberry and strawberry picking, in which i kind of invented my own cheesecake based off of a tea i had once, "strawberry blueberry lemonade." it came out pretty good as well. not to mention the blueberry cake, blueberry muffins, strawberry muffins, and this strawberry cream pie so far. i got a few more things to try, i just gotta find the time!

pink, pink, everywhere!

so much pink this weekend! its a girl, though, so its only fitting!

had a baby shower cake for a friend on sunday. i didn't really get much direction, so i kind of went with what i could find out. my friend had posted a picture of the outfit she is going to bring the baby home in on her first day, and it was, of course, pink of various shades, with a curtsey-ing little monkey in an orange polka dotted dress.  the way it was set out, i came up with this pretty quick. i added the monkey border and the flowers, just because i like making flowers, and i felt like the bottom needed something to tie it together. i think it came out pretty decent. it was definitely a big hit with everyone there! a chocolate tier and a vanilla tier, both filled with whipped cream and strawberries. not sure why, but i felt like that was fitting for a little girl as well. i couldn't tell you the inner workings of my mind.

on another note, not that i get many responses through this page, but those in the manlius, ny vicinity and so forth....PLEASE, if you ask for something, i need to know in advance!! like two weeks at least! i had a surprise cake come up today, so now i have two for this saturday. i love baking and all, but until i have a steady flow of people who need cakes and treats, i do work two jobs, probably between 45-60 hours a week, and i fit my cakes in or ask for time off accordingly. it is very hard to do last minute.

so on that end, i better get cracking if i wanna get this done o_O

also, i decided to add a new slideshow for the actual new stuff from here on out. hopefully i remember to keep up on this. there are more pictures of the wedding cake plus a few of this one, just a couple close ups of the piping and flowers and such. hope you all enjoy!

This weekends wedding cake!

it was a 50's themed wedding, so all the polka dots and bows fit nicely.  i made a funfetti (vanilla) cake, and the accompanying cupcakes were a mix of chocolate and vanilla, each with either chocolate/pink frosting, or vanilla/pink frosting.

i still have one more for today, as soon as i get that done i will have more pictures. i will also add more pictures to the slideshow, or maybe make a new one? ill decide on that later. in the mean time, many happy wishes to the newlyweds, and congrats for this afternoon!

new picture slideshow posted

well, i finally sat down today and attempted to track all of the pictures i didnt upload between september 2010 and now. i hope i got them all....if not, check out my facebook page, i know everything is in there! (see the side bar fan box thingy and like my page!) :)

anyway, today i am working on a wedding cake/cupcake piece. as you can see, i have a lot of cupcakes! 102 to be exact.  the cake is almost done, just have to put the finishing touches on that and i will share that later, and the final pictures all pieced together will come tomorrow, since tomorrow is the actual wedding!

by the end of sunday, i will also have another baby shower cake to post as well.  lots of pink this weekend, but hey, its bright, its fun, you cant go wrong.  plus, delicious!!

latest update

wow, so i guess its been almost 2 years since ive updated this blog. i should keep better track of it. anyways, i update my facebook more, and i do have new cakes to post here, hopefully this week i can get them all uploaded. i would like to consider doing this more as a full time thing, a lot has happened recently, but overall i enjoy baking and i believe it is less stress all around. 

 getting more requests is probably key in this taking over as a full time thing, so any viewers, while i do post a lot of cakes, i do like to make other treats as well....cheesecakes, cookies, more recently i have tried a hand at cake pops (well, brownie pops), i will have more pictures this weekend since i am doing a wedding involving pops, cupcakes and a small cake!

 i am excited to start looking into this, since its something i love to do and can have fun with. the more i make, the better i get as well. this guy here is my most recent fondant on a cake, i hand painted all of the decals as well. ka-chow!! (yes, i love cars, one of my favorite movies ever.)

for  now, i leave with this. hand made (and hand painted) custom little big planet toppers for a wedding cake from february. i couldn't say no to this, little big planet is a favorite game. they turned out so gosh darn cute!!
